Tumi Robe Nirobe-Tagore and His Woman Characters...

I may not be the right person to write about RabindraNath Tagore as I have hardly read his works in Bangla, but when I try to understand him through movies or songs or translated copies I find him most modern man I met.His characters especially the woman whom he depicted are so true after his 140 yrs of creation.

The writing is majorly based on what characters I knew from films or Bangla natak or few TV series.I know his woman characters are so many that my whole life will be finished reading them...

Being a little girl from 90's when Ray just passed away and may be very first movie i saw was Charulata.that time i couldn't understand a single scene except a scene which put a question mark on my face was the one "charulata seeing outer world with binoculars" later when I grew and understand the situation of Tagore's era when a lady was not allowed to see world beyond four walls,I still relate many KAki or Boudi to them. He depicted Charu,Bimala who wanted to see World out of four walls which I find so true when I see a homemaker to learn and make her identity in 21st century..

His take on child marriage was so beautiful with the characters from "Atithi", "Shamapti" or "Monihara" that we can imagine how a little girl was expected to be matured in a day just by getting married, though today no child marriage is there but still those characters can be seen in a very young college passout girl getting married, there struggle to manage household or to understand relationship...

The story which made me think most is of course not Chokher Bali but "Stri r Patra",I found it as a letter of woman coming out of a situation which was kind of Mental Torture or domestic violence of modern world, character of "Mrinal" can be related to a modern day woman with a dominating husband from a unhappy marriage...

In my early teens my first matured visit to Kolkata during 25se Baisakh and my first introduction to so called Rabindra Charcha where I saw a dance drama called "Shyama".I feel "Shyama"  is every girl next door who is seeking true love but is confused and sometimes has to suffer,or be it "Chitrangada" which depicts every girl who tend to change when she meets the Mr.right.

The beauty of relationship when I read "Hotat Dekha" kabita after watching Praktan is something I heard when a friend of mine meets his or her ex.,or Be it "Birpurush" where a child wants to be a hero,is same as a child of today who imagine to be "Superman" or my favourite "Mini" from "Kabuliwala" who has her own world which every little girl has...

Every Time I read his characters I find a resemblance with a lady I met,so may be the reason we still after 157 yrs celebrate not just his birth anniversary but every character who still exists in his writing...

Tagore and I-A Relationship Which We All Have With Him

In my growing up years in so-called probashi Bangali poribar,I met a Bhodrolok everyday in my house either in some books or on a photo frame. An old man with a big white beard wearing a long alkhala or kurta named Rabindra Nath Thakur,Yes not Tagore because that spelling I learnt much later when I studied in school...

Probably early 90's when I was a little girl,my parents took me for a formal interview in my school.I still remember, interviewer asking me"Who is He?" by pointing a large photo frame, there also I again met him and yes from there till today I regularly meet him either in Facebook or WhatsApp or anywhere as he after 159 years of his birth still is omnipresent and young.

When I was in my early teens,I first saw Dance drama shyama during my visit to Kolkata during 25 baisakh. In that,I first understood a woman's mind and after so many years I still feel,it's relevant as still it depicts a young woman's search for her Mr.Perfect and landing up getting puzzled and frustrated.Be it Mayar khela or Chitrangada or any other I feel he represented the modern woman beautifully with his different characters from Mahabharata or any simple story.

The story which made me think most is "Stri r Patra",I found it as a letter of woman coming out of a situation which was kind of Mental Torture or domestic violence of modern world, character of "Mrinal" can be related to a modern-day woman with a dominating husband from an unhappy marriage.

Why just woman, his beautiful depiction of little boy imagining himself as "Birpurush" or a character of "Gora" or  Amit Ray potraits the character of man and his wishes is still relevant when we see a friend.

The beauty of relationship when I read "Hotat Dekha" kabita after watching Praktan is something I heard when a friend of mine meets his or her ex.

Strangely a girl who use to stop her mom singing Rabindra Sangeet saying it's boring has a playlist in which top heard songs are Rabindra Sangeet-Reason unknown or may be one start understanding Tagore or his work while he/she grows up as one can relate his/her life to his creation.
